Volunteers Needed
ASSEMBLIES Gather information on assemblies
for the school. PTA funded with principal giving
final permission for them.
BOOK
FAIR Two, week-long Scholastic Book Fairs
are scheduled - Fall and Spring. Volunteers
need to set up, close &/or work during
the week.
CHAT
N’ CHEW A book club for 3rd, 4th
and 5th grade. This program usually takes place
in February-March. A volunteer leads small
group discussion during the lunch hour.
CLASSROOM
ASSISTANT Each teacher has one or
two volunteers to help with cutting, pasting,
binding, etc usually once a week. This is not
the same as a homeroom parent.
CLASSROOM/YEARBOOK
PHOTOGRAPHER Volunteers
take pictures (must have a digital camera!)
for the yearbook at school events such as holiday
class parties, cultural arts week, field trips,
etc.
CULTURAL
ARTS Wilder has a Cultural Arts Week
where students learn about a particular country.
During this week, there are activities to enhance
learning.
DIRECTORY Data entry and lay out of Wilder
student/staff information along with calendars
and other pertinent information.
FAMILY
DINNER NIGHTS Researching and scheduling
a restaurant a month with a percentage of sales
being given back to PTA
FIELD
DAY This fun event is at the end of the
year and takes place outdoors (hopefully) with
games and events.
FIFTH
GRADE BANQUET A special evening at the
end of the year for the fifth graders.
HEALTH
AND SAFETY FAIR Plan an evening event that
educates people on health &/or safety.
Also schedule volunteers for Health Screening
with our school nurse.
HOSPITALITY Volunteers support the Hospitality
chair with various activities for special occasions
including recognition days and Teacher Appreciation
week.
HOMEROOM
PARENTS Keep homeroom parents aware
of events and duties, explain money handling
procedures.
LEGISLATION Keep Wilder families abreast of
legislative alerts and information through
emails and newsletter articles.
5K
LEAN, GREEN RUNNING MACHINE Gather sponsors,
map out course with city, Teams in Training
program, publicity, contract race timer, ect.
There is an environmental fair along with the
5K and a one mile run/walk.
LIBRARY Assist the Librarian in checking books
in and out, shelving, etc
LUNCHROOM
VOLUNTEER Will help with opening
milk, passing out napkins, etc. Strong need
during Kindergarten lunch times.
NEWSLETTER Pick up newsletter from printer,
collate newsletter, put in inserts, count out
by classroom and put in boxes each month.
OPEN
HOUSE Assist the Open House chair with
setting up and serving of the meal during Open
House.
PAFLE – Parent and Family Life Education
Often serves as Health & Safety Chair to
present a program that educates parents (i.e.
diet, exercise, math programs…)
PLAYGROUND & CLASSROOM
IN THE COURTYARD Coordinating volunteer maintenance
and landscape
around the school, playground and courtyard.
Presenting improvements and needs to the PTA
Board.
PROJECT
WILDCATS MATH & READING Wilder’s
math & reading tutoring program. One child
receives 30 minutes of your time each week.
Short training session is available to new
tutors.
READING
IS FUNDAMENTAL-RIF an SCPTA program that
distributes books 3-4 times a year to
certain grades. Also encourages reading by
gathering ‘reading minutes’ of
students and awarding them for the dedication.
REFLECTIONS a national PTA arts enhancement program.
Educate parents/students of the program,
application & rules. Hold a contest before
Christmas break with winners moving on to SCPTA
and MOPTA.
SCHOOL
PICTURES Work with Principal to schedule
picture taking days in fall and spring. Volunteers
are needed to help coordinate classrooms/groups
during these days.
SHARING
AND CARING coordinate volunteers for
the SCPTA Clothing Bank usually 4-5 times a
year.. Volunteers are also needed throughout
the year to help with our clothing drives,
Backpack Snack program and other activities.
SKATING
PARTIES work with principal to schedule
monthly skating parties. Themes are encouraged.
VOLUNTEER
COORDINATOR work with office staff
to gather Background Checks, keep monthly record
of volunteer hours, get each committee chair
a copy of each Volunteer Opportunity form that
pertains to that committee.
WATCHDOG
PROGRAM: DADS OF GREAT STUDENTS- A
Dad/Grandfather/male role model spends the
day at school helping monitor the halls, working
in the lunchroom, supervising the playground,
and other activities.
WEBSITE work with principal and PTA president to keep
website up-to-date.
WILDER
WEAR research and gather quotes, promote
and inventory spirit wear throughout the year.
YEARBOOK contract with vendor, gather pictures/information
and work on lay out. Create theme and ‘extras’ & handle
orders & delivery.
