PTA Reflections Program

From the PTA President: Tracy Simpson

President’s Corner
January 2012

Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone had a happy, safe, and relaxing Winter Break!

December was a busy, but exciting month. The Wilder Month of Giving was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who made it possible. Student Council did an amazing job raising money with popcorn and water sales during the 3rd/4th grade and Warbler performances. They also collected goods and raised money during “theme” days at school. All proceeds went to help purchase items listed on the ornaments on the Sharing Tree. Thank you to the Sharing and Caring Committee and to all those who took an ornament, worked to get the tree and ornaments ready, wrapped gifts, etc.! By working as a team we were able to help those in our Wilder community.

December also brought a packed Barnes and Noble Night, a skating party with a “special guest,” Family Dinner Night at Peachwave, and class parties that ended the last day of school on a fun note. Thank you to all the volunteers who donated items for the parties, ran the games, braved a craft and came in to help keep everything flowing. We could not do it without you!

January is going to be a great month as well! We will have our monthly skating party and a Family Dinner Night. The Reflections Showcase will be at Battlefield Mall on Sunday, January 8th from 12:00-4:00 p.m. Don’t miss the Warblers performing the National Anthem at the Lady Bears game on Sunday, January 29th at 2:00pm!

The time is approaching for a nominating committee to get together to nominate next year’s Executive Committee. If anyone is interested in serving on the Nominating Committee or the Executive Committee please let me know.

Thank you again for all that you do and I wish you all a happy 2012!

Benefits of PTA

As a PTA member, you are an independent, self-governing organization where all members have a voice. Schools, school districts, or school boards do not control you. You have the opportunity to work together to decide on programs and projects to benefit children.

As a PTA member, you have access to leadership training, excellent speakers, and networking with other PTAs just like you at the annual convention and leadership training conference. You have access to a network of knowledgeable people to assist you in your growth and development. Whether you have questions about fund raising, liability insurance, IRS forms, parliamentary procedure, or programs, we are here to help you.

Your membership gives Missouri PTA and National PTA more clout when speaking to legislators on behalf of children.

What is the Reflections Program?

For 40 years, the national PTA Reflections Program has encouraged students across the nation and in American schools overseas to explore their artistic talents. This program was started in 1969 by Colorado PTA board member, Mary Lou Anderson. Since that time, the Reflections Program has become one of the most popular programs that National PTA offers.

The PTA Reflections Program is designed to enhance quality arts education for students in preschool through grade 12, encouraging them to create works of art in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts. More than 500,000 students participate through their local PTAs each year—millions over the course of the program’s 40 years.

The Reflections Program helps parents encourage the creativity and lifelong learning of their children, and offers children recognition for their artistic endeavors. Parents, teachers, and community members all play a critical role in providing a positive learning environment for children. Supporting the PTA Reflections Program is one way you can increase student achievement, foster student talents, and promote the arts in your home, your school, and your community.
