A
Note from
Dr. Steingraber:
Working Together to Build Character
We
have just completed the 2nd quarter for the 2011-2012
school year . One of the many reasons
that we have a great school is because of the way
that students, teachers and parents work together
to form an educational partnership. When this partnership
forms, I have never found an issue that could not
be solved. I appreciate the efforts of students,
parents and staff in working together. While we strive to excel at academics at Wilder
Elementary School, we also promote positive
character development
in our students. Throughout the week, I attempt
to recognize, over the announcements, students
who have
displayed exemplary character. January’s Character
Education word was “Attitude” and it
was a joy to hear how students displayed wonderful
attitudes in the classroom.
The
Character Education word for February is “Courtesy” and I
am looking forward to observing and hearing stories
of students displaying acts of courtesy. We truly
feel that developing positive character within our
students, along with solid academics, will give our
students the skills they need for future success.
We
truly appreciate the support our community provides
in developing positive character within our students.
On another note, our building attendance for
the year is 95.670% which is over a .5% increase
over
last year. This first half of this school year
has been a great one and I have been extremely
pleased
with the progress we have made. As the 2nd
half of the year begins, I am looking forward
to finishing
the year strong.

Wilder SnackPack Program
 Each week
during the school year, many of our students at Wilder are supplied
with backpacks filled with nutritious
food to take home over the weekend.
This program, called
the SnackPack program, is designed to provide food that
can easily be prepared by a child in case there are times
over the weekend where additional food may be necessary
to support the family.
The SnackPack program
is modeled after several programs in Springfield and throughout the
United States and takes into account the child’s well-being
and privacy. The program has been successful at Wilder
with the support of PTA and Wilder families.
This school
year King’s Way United Methodist Church, a Wilder Partner in
Education, will be working with the school to support
this program. With their help the needs of many more
Wilder children will be met. Wilder families and businesses that
would like to continue supporting this program
may place food items in the bin outside the office or a
cash donation may be made to Wilder PTA (please designate “SnackPack” program
on the envelope or check). Thank you to King’s Way and all families that have supported
this much-needed program.
