Weaver Elementary School, located in northwest Springfield, was constructed in 1887.  The school was named after Joseph Weaver, Mayor of Springfield.  The following is a history of the school's development.
 

1887

Originally known as the 6th Ward school.

1888 

Taken over from North Springfield.

1901

First addition.

1931

Building abandoned for use as a school but later used primarily as a warehouse. Replaced by new building on Douglas and Division. New building had 9 rooms and a multipurpose room totaling 28,115 sq. ft. 

1988  

First addition of a learning resource center including a library and a computer lab totaling 5,017 sq. ft.

1990

Demolition of old Weaver School building.

2005

Weaver and Fairbanks are combined.
