Weaver Elementary School,
located in northwest Springfield,
was constructed in 1887. The school was named after Joseph Weaver, Mayor of Springfield. The following is a history of the school's
development.

Originally known as the 6th Ward school. |

Taken over from North Springfield. |

1901 |
First addition. |

1931 |
Building abandoned for use as a school but later used primarily as a warehouse. Replaced by new building on Douglas and Division. New building had 9 rooms and a multipurpose room totaling 28,115 sq. ft. |

First addition of a learning resource center including a library and a computer lab totaling 5,017 sq. ft. |

1990 |
Demolition of old Weaver School building. |

Weaver and Fairbanks are combined. |
