ePals

We are using a website called ePals to learn about using email safely. We are also communicating with students from two Springfield schools: Sherwood Elementary and Boyd Elementary. We are learning about what these students are studying and finding out what their hobbies and interests are. We will also be collaborating with these other students on a computer lab project after the Holidays. Each class will also be choosing a country that they would like to learn more about, and we have ePals from that country. The students will work on a powerpoint project about a specific topic having to do with the country we are corresponding with based on conversations with their ePal and research we find in computer class. Parents/Guardians can check out what ePals is all about, and sign up for an ePals account yourself, at www.epals.com

Mrs. Mullins' class' ePals are from an elementary school in Paris, France. They have been able to email their French pen pals several times. We have received one email back from them so far. It is really neat to see how our two cultures are alike and different.

Mrs. Ratcliff's Class' ePals are from Sherwood Elementary. Mrs. Young teaches computers at Sherwood in the afternoon and arranged for one of their classes to be pen pals with Mrs. Ratcliff's class. They have enjoyed making new friends from the Springfield area.

Mrs. Fisher's class has gotten to write back and forth with their ePals from Boyd Elementary a few times. They have also enjoyed making new friends from Springfield!

Mrs. Young is still trying to find pen pals for the other 4-5th grade classes. We have been emailing other students within our school as pen pals until we can find outside pen pals for these classes. The students are all learning about how to communicate through email, while using appropriate words and grammar in their typing skills.
