Keyboarding is one of the most important aspects of Computer Lab time for students in 3rd-5th grades. I start introducing children to basic concepts of keyboarding in Kindergarten, First, and Second grades; but we really start keyboarding seriously in 3rd grade. We use a program called Type To Learn3 to teach keyboarding. The program has 25 lessons and it is our goal to get through all of them before students finish 5th grade.

It is important for your child to work on their typing skills at home too. There are several great CD-Rom keyboarding programs available at Barnes & Noble or Borders, or any other bookstore for that matter. There are also hundreds, if not thousands, of typing tutor/game websites on the internet that are available for your child to use to work on their typing skills. I would encourage you to allow your child to work with these programs while they are having computer time at home.
Here are some links to online typing games that would be great to use with your child.
