Reading Continue practicing High Frequency Words, if your child does not know them. These are the words that you child should be able to read "in a snap" by the end of the year. Knowing these words instantaneously frees up their minds to problem solve more difficult words. We are playing games to help us learn them. Children who have practiced at home are very competitive! Let me know if you did not receive a hard copy of these words. We continue Guided Reading, learning strategies that good readers use. We will also focus on the sound of the letter Yy. We have been sorting letters into consonants and vowels and learning some handy rules for vowels that sometimes work. Of course, the most important rule is that reading must make sense! |

Writing We continue to write about small moments in our lives. We will be learning what it means to "revise" and "edit" our stories. Please work on writing first and last name without using a resource. We also sorted letters by the first line of the letter and will begin using lined paper to practice writing so that our audience can read what we write. |

Problem Solving We are playing games to strengthen the strategies used in addition. We also became familiar with the calculator and will play and learn with it in the next couple of weeks. Fifteen of twenty met the CCI goal of counting backward from 22. If your child was one who did not meet the goal, please continue practicing with them. Next CCI goal will be to count by 10s to 100. |
