Reading

Reading: A reader's life....fiction stories, story elements- Predicting, figurative language...We are into book clubs now. Reading should be a part of the home routine as well...around 30 min. per night!

We read Time For Kids (TFK)magazines on most Thursdays together. They should be taken home and read again...usually with a comprehension page. Fri. there is a 13 point test which students can use their magazine to take....Many reading grades are gathered from these papers.

Writing: Valentine Topics

Grammar: Irregular verbs, and pronoun-verb agreement

Spelling: Pretests are taken Wednesdays, and the 12 words are written neatly and correctly in planners, as well as students are given a paper copy for the refrigerator...Post-tests are given Tuesday mornings. Some students may be "compactors" and given a different list - but words still have the same pattern in them.Words are expected to be spelled correctly in written work - especially if it's on the page, or has been a spelling word!

Spelling Words are to be done in cursive now. Students' lists have been written in cursive for several weeks, and we've learned all the lower-case cursive letters. Most students' cursive is neater than their printing!! Please help reinforce cursive practice at home. Thanks!

Unit 22 Post test is Tues. 7th. Pretest 23 on consonant letters/silent qu, ph, mb is Wed. 8th, and post-test is Tues. 13th

MathCh. 7 on Multiplication/Division of higher facts 6-9. I cannot stress enough how important it is for kids to learn their X facts. We begin quizzes soon, which will lead to an ice cream party for those who learn all their facts!

Smartsville Update- We have our jobs in Smartsville! Students are helping run our classroom in a responsible manner.February Character Focus: Speak out with Courage/Attitude

NEWSWe continue working on respecting rules, and the rights of others. Some kids are struggling with this. All kids have the right to learn and become educated in our classroom. Those who don't make it difficult for others to learn. Are you part of the problem, or the solution?

Also....untied shoe laces continue to be an issue for some students. Truly, by 3rd grade, kids need to know how to tie laces tight/double! It is a hallway/classroom hazard.

I'd love a copy of basketball/sports schedules so I could come watch the kids play sometime!!

Valentine Boxes are to be made at home. Parties are on the 14th from 2-3:00 in our class so we can have 3:00 Music.

Book Orders may be placed online, or turned in to me w/ a check by Fri. 10th.
