The Three Steps to Teaching Procedures |
1. Explain. State, explain, model, demonstrate |
2. Rehearse and practice the procedure under teacher supervision. |
3. Reinforce. Reteach, rehearse, practice, and reinforce the classroom procedure until it becomes a student habit or routine. |

Develop a plan to teach your procedures to students new to your class. |

A list of essential procedures to teach from a Pipkin teacher. To not take this to be the definitive list, but a starting place for you to begin thinking about procedures you should teach in your classroom. This list is a subset of list of procedures found in Harry Wong's, First Days of School. |

There are hundreds of Internet sites on the topic of the first days of school. (Harry Wong’s name appears on most of them.)
Here are things from the Internet that would be worth a little of your time. (If you just left click on the link to the power point presentations and select OPEN, the presentation will play in Internet Explorer and you won't be able to modify them to suit your classroom. If you SAVE the file to your computer then open it with Power Point you can tailor the file for use in your classroom.) |

Teachers should strongly consider developing a power point presentation to use during the first few days of school. We are well supported by the school board with more technology than all other Springfield middle schools. Use these tools! Subject partners or teams might consider working together to prepare a presentation with similar classroom procedures and rules. If you read the Narrative Scripts and view the three power point presentations, you will notice a great deal of similarity. Harry Wong is the reason for these similarities. All are good models to consider for your classroom use. |
