Parkview Cheerleading is a year-round sport made up of four squads of 7-14 members. There are strict guidelines to become and remain a cheerleader. Cheerleaders have many responsibilities at our school.
Tryouts are held each spring for the following year. Squads will practice throughout the summer, attend cheer camp in July and have regional competition in August. They work very hard to learn cheers that will be used to encourage the fall and winter sport teams. In the fall,
PHS cheerleaders cover games for Varsity football, JV football, and Freshman football. In the winter, they cheer for Varsity, JV, and Freshman boys’ and girls’ basketball. Often cheering
between one and four games per week, cheerleaders use their enthusiasm to lead their crowds in a positive manner.
Cheerleaders also support their school in other ways. We make posters to hang around the building to let everyone know about the games. We give small tokens of encouragement and school spirit to players. We work hard for about two months preparing for the many assemblies. Varsity cheerleaders also compete at state competition each November in Columbia, Missouri.
Fundraising is another responsibility and we participate in concessions throughout the school year and an elementary through eighth grade cheer clinic. Our hard working Booster Club also supports us financially with proceeds from yard sales and other fundraisers. They offer support as we practice for competitions, celebrate birthdays, or prepare for camp with small gifts and encouragement.
Cheerleaders are athletic, hardworking, dedicated, and loyal to their school. After family and academics, cheerleading is our first priority. Find out more if you think cheerleading is for you!
