| For years the world
of Japanese animation was non-existent within the halls of PHS until two
boys (with little more to do than be helpless dorks) had a vision. Four
years ago the PHS Anime Club was born and has provided students familiar
with Anime, and those who are just curious, with hours of entertainment
and cultural enrichment.
The Anime club has seen steady growth along with an increase in American interest in this unique Eastern storytelling form. Unlike American cartoons, Japanese animation embodies not only entertainment for children but every age group and gender. Each year the club president chooses two television series to show the club. One series is geared to female views, often containing romantic and dramatic elements, and another is geared to a predominately male audience usually employing more action elements. In addition, to watching Anime, the Club also participates in other activities. These include moon viewing with KHS's Japanese Club, volunteering at the Sister Cities Association's Japanese Fall Festival, devouring sushi and having all night Anime marathons. For the aspiring artist there is going to be a new faction in the Anime Club. Participants will write, draw and produce a manga (Japanese style comic book). Members will have the chance to submit their own works for this publication.
