This past week we solved rebus puzzles and the studied the similarities with Plexer problems. In effort to support MAP skilsl, students recorded on an organizer their interpretation of the important events in the story Ravita and the Land of the Unknown Shadows. Reflecting on the CCI data from this week, all students have achieved mastery in analogies! Whoo Hoo!.
PGD: Students have considered strategies for dealing with Perfectionism and Procrastination. We continue to support students’ development of life skills by focusing on the positive character traits of individuals in their current Major Unit.
Major Unit: The two major units of “Off to the Races” and Expeditions-Explorations will end this next week. “Off to the Races” teams will draw extempore cards to work into their skits they will present to the primary classes. “Expeditions-Explorations” will be walking to Phelps Grove Park to explore the navigational system known as GPS and reflecting in their journals incorporating first hand accounts of their exploration experiences.
NO WINGS for 3rd grade – 8th grade during the MAP testing weeks of March 29-April 8. We fully support this testing window for our WINGS students in their home schools!
We're Off to the Races Major Unit:
This unit is a creative problem-solving unit based on multiple intelligences to study competitions and races. Students will be using this topic to also practice and acquire research and presentation skills as well as portray their knowledge gained from different races in the form of a team-written and performed skit. Some of the races included for study in this unit are: Olympics, NASCAR, Kentucky Derby, Iditarod, Tour de France and others.
This unit is a course of study designed to meet and challednge the needs of Primary gifted students. Their need to be exposed to varied subjects and concerns. Their need to explore issues related to the world community, and to heighten awareness of personal talents and ways to contribute to humanity.
