Scholars Participate in Model UN
About 30 6th, 7th and 8th grade Scholars students are taking part in MSU's Model UN program Monday and Tuesday, November 7th and 8th. Students have been meeting at Central after school, familiarizing themselves with the countries they will represent in November. The Scholars students have selected the countries they will represent, and have signed up for UN committees.
Student delegates will represent Kuwait, Israel, Slovakia and India. Delegates will sit on several committees while at MAMUN. They will be active on First Committee, Third Committee, Eco Soc, Security Council, and Historical Security Council. Students work in one of the computer labs on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school with their team members under the direction of Mrs. Chapin and Mrs. Sellars, the 7th grade Scholars Program instructors.
Eighth grader Joseph Essmann has been a member of Model UN since 6th grade and stated, "Being a part of Model UN is good because I like the college atmosphere and it is important to know about international affairs and global issues.” Jacob Zorehkey and Sasi Karuparti both feel that being a part of this prgoram is “interesting and when you listen to the news you actually know what the commentators are talking about." Even though there is a lot of research, writing and reading to do, Jack Mostyn, a sixth grade student stated, "It's a lot of fun."
