Thinking Skills Curr= iculum - First Grade

The Thinking skills class focuses on critical thinking, creative thinking, analytical thinking, and organizational thinki= ng skills.  This class, specifica= lly allotted to thinking skills development, is part of a comprehensive curriculum to me= et the cognitive needs of gifted children.&nb= sp; Robert Ennis, Arthur Costa, Richard Paul, Sidney Parnes, and Deborah Burns are just a few of the researchers we have used to define = the following list of skills for students.&nbs= p;

 

The thinking skills below will be introduced a= nd reinforced throughout the year in Thinking Skills class, Major Units of study, computers, PGD and Geometry.   Each week I will send home the spec= ific objectives of each lesson in “This week at WINGS”.

 

Week 1 – Flex Week - no formal lesson (August 31 – September 3)

 

Week 2 – Flex Week - no formal lesson (September 8 – 10)

 

Week 3 - Thinking Skills Pre – Test (September 14 – 17)

 

Week 4 – Brainstorming (September 21 = 211; 24)

 

Week 5 – Brainstorming (September 28 = 211; October 1)

 

Week 6 – Brainstorming (October 5 –= ; 8)

 

Week 7 - Pattern Finding and Completion (Octob= er 12 – 15)

 

Week 8 - Pattern Finding and Completion (Octob= er 19 – 22)

 

Week 9 - Pattern Finding and Completion (Octob= er 26 – 29)

 

Week 10 - Creative Thinking Processes – Fluency (November 2 – 5)

 

Week 11 - Creative Thinking Processes – Flexibility (November 9 – 12)

 

Week 12 - Creative Thinking Processes – = Originality (November 16 – 19)
