Visitors to our site often have many of the same questions. Some of the most common are included below.

Where is Phelps Center located?

Phelps Center for Gifted Education is located at 934 S. Kimbrough which is near the corner of Kimbrough and Grand. Entrance to Phelps is from Holland which is one block east of Kimbrough and directly across from the new parking facility for MSU. Visitors should enter the building at the covered entrance of the new addition. Map to Phelps

What are the office hours?

Office hours are from 7:30 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon.

What day will my child attend?

Students attend Phelps one day each week. Schools are assigned a day to attend and the students from that school all attend on the same day. Schools may be assigned different days from year to year. The attendance day schedule for the upcoming school year is usually completed in May of the current year.

Is the curriculum different from regular school?

The curriculum for WINGS and BRIDGES is different that what students experience in their regular classrooms. Students focus on thinking skills, affective needs and areas of interest called major units. The specific educational objectives can be obtained at the specific grade level pages in this website.

Should I do anything to help prepare my child for the evaluation?

We highly recommend children come to the evaluation rested and feeling well. No specific academic preparation is necessary. If your child is not feeling well, please call as early as possible and re-schedule.

How long will the evaluation take?

The evaluation will take no more than an hour and a half. A counselor will meet with the person bringing the student after the session is over.

When will my child be evaluated?

Student evaulation and testing occurs at different times during the school year and over the summer months. A tentative testing schedule is available at the link Testing Schedule.
