Too Good For Violence

One of the key components of the Springfield Public School’s Guidance and Counseling Curriculum is the Too Good For Violence component. The Too Good For Violence program was developed by the Mendez Foundation. It is a K-5 violence prevention curriculum that consists of four interrelated topics: ♥ Conflict Resolution, ♥ Anger Management, ♥ Respect for Self & Others, and ♥ Effective Communication.
Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade will complete lessons throughout the school year that cover these four topics. The curriculum is school-based, but relies heavily on the family and the community as vital partners. The curriculum is presented on the premise that the classroom/school is a peaceable place. Horace Mann Elementary strives to provide an environment where students, staff, and parents cooperate, communicate respectfully, and appreciate the diversity in our school community.
Research has shown that parental involvement is a key component in developing safe, respectful, and responsible youth. The Too Good For Violence Curriculum will provide a “Home Workout” so that parents can reinforce the skills that are being taught and utilized at school. In an effort to “go green,” the Home Workouts will be placed on the Counselor’s Website for parents to access. If you do not have access to a computer, feel free to stop by the school to utilize a computer.

Attention Parent(s):
You can find the Home Workouts on the Objectives Page once the lesson has been completed at school.
