KICKAPOO HIGH SCHOOL
MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Kickapoo High School is to facilitate a high level of learning and performance to prepare all students for their futures in a global society.

THE COMMUNITY

Springfield, population 154,777, is at the heart of southwest Missouri. Kickapoo High School is the largest of five high schools in the city and receives middle school students from Carver Middle School, Cherokee Middle School, and Pershing Middle School. Kickapoo makes extensive use of business leaders and community volunteers to enhance the quality of education.

SCHOOL CHARACTERISTICS

• Four-year public high school
• Accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools
• AAA (highest) classification by Missouri State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
• 81% of graduates enroll in full-time, post-secondary education ( 4-year - 57% / 2-year - 24%)
• Enrollment as of September, 2010: Seniors - 411 Sophomores - 475
Juniors - 394 Freshmen - 463 Total - 1743

THE CURRICULUM

Course offerings are highly academic. They include a total of ten honors courses (H), up to six credits in foreign language classes, Algebra II, Math Analysis/Trigonometry, Calculus, College Algebra, General Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, Physics I & II, Advanced Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Advanced Debate, and Economics. Advanced Placement courses include Biology, Calculus, Statistics, Chemistry, Music Theory, English Literature, Psychology, European History, U.S. History, and World History.

The school operates on a 36-week school year. Students have four classes per term (quarter) with each class meeting 85 minutes. Credit is received at the end of each term. There are four terms in a school year

Collective Commitments

The staff of Kickapoo High School recognizes that staff behaviors are the key to achieving our Mission and Vision. Therefore, the staff of Kickapoo High School collectively makes the following commitments regarding our behavior. We will:

• Collaborate with one another in developing instructional strategies, designing methods of assessments, and advancing the vision of the school.

• Collaborate to identify and focus on the essential outcomes for each class and help all students achieve these outcomes by addressing their individual needs and learning styles.

• Expect a high level of achievement from each student and provide the necessary instruction and support to facilitate that achievement.

• Be dedicated to ongoing professional development to improve our teaching strategies.

• Recognize the value of an excellent co-curricular program by providing and supporting a variety of opportunities and encouraging participation by all.

• Keep parents informed about their students' progress and seek opportunities to encourage their active support of Kickapoo High School and its students.

• Treat others with an attitude of mutual respect.

• Promote positive behaviors and attitudes by teaching, modeling, and reinforcing appropriate behavior in and out of the classroom.

• Teach, support, and enforce the procedures and rules of Kickapoo High School in order to provide an organized climate that is conducive to learning.
