Dress Code
The student should attend school dressed in a manner that is
clean, not hazardous to his or her safety or to the safety of
others, and does not distract from the expected productive and
required educational environment.
Due to increased concern across the district regarding inappropriate
dress, the following guidelines have been established for students
of all Springfield high schools:
- Hats,
bandannas or other forms of head covers are not to be worn
in the school building
- Shoes must
be worn at all times
- T-shirts and/or
other apparel should not contain profanity, obscenities,
suggestive, derogatory
or provocative statements, drug or alcohol
symbols or advertisements, or gang dress symbols or graffiti
and are not to be worn

not to be worn in the school building or on school grounds

to involve intimidation, violence, or other illegal activities
will not be permitted at
school or school activities due to their
disruptive nature on the school climate and educational
process
- Pants should
be worn at the waist and are not allowed to sag
Electronic Devices
The rules in all Springfield Public Schools regarding electronic
devices read as follows:
"The possession of laser
pointers and other unsafe electronic items are prohibited in
the school building. All other electronic
devices, such as, but not limited to, cell phones, pagers, PDA's,
head phones, IPODs/MP3 players may be in the student's possession
as long as they are not disruptive of the educational process
or in violation of site use procedures. The school district will
not be responsible for lost or stolen items."
Cellular Phones
- Students are not allowed to use or display cell phones during
the class time. If they choose to disregard this rule, they
will be disciplined according to site scope and sequence.
- If a parent has a need
to reach a student during the school day, he or she should
call the office and we will make every
attempt to deliver the message. If parents have a need to call
on a student’s cell phone to leave a message during the
day they are free to do so. However, students cannot check
for messages during class time.
- If a student remembers that the cell phone is turned on during
class time, he or she should approach the teacher and ask permission
from the teacher to turn it off. Providing the student has
followed the appropriate procedure, the teacher should allow
the student to turn off the phone without penalty.
- If a student forgets to
turn off a cell phone and it rings or vibrates during class,
the student should ask the teacher’s
permission to turn it off. The student may also be subject
to the teacher’s classroom discipline procedures.
Identification Badges
All students at Kickapoo are required to wear ID badges upon
entering the school building every day. Badges must be worn throughout
the school day until the student leaves the school grounds. Our
purpose for having ID badges is to identify our own students
and recognize outsiders so as to continue our emphasis on a safe
school environment. Badges should not have any extra writing,
drawings or stickers attached.
ID badges are also used in the following ways:
- As a debit
card in the cafeteria
- As a library
card
- Purchase a temporary ID badge
- As proof of
activity participation at various events
- As proof of OTC attendance
If a student
arrives at school without a badge, he or she should report
immediately to room 142 to get a badge. If a student arrives
before 7:30 without a badge, he or she should wait at the door
of room 142 until such time as the badge can be made.
Staff will begin
making badges at 7:30 a.m. At 7:45, staff will direct those
students still in line to report to their first period classes.
The student should tell the first period teacher that a badge
and/or lanyard is needed. The teacher will email badge staff
and a badge will be made and sent to the classroom.
Once 2nd block
begins, if a student is in the hallway or in a classroom and
does not have the ID badge properly displayed, the student
will be given detention. Students without any ID badge will
be asked to do one of the following:
- Obtain a temporary
ID (only one per quarter)
- Call a parent
to see if the parent will bring one to school
- Purchase
an ID badge and/or lanyard
NOTE:
Students will still be assigned detention for failing to
wear the badge while on school
grounds and for not following building guidelines. |
