Mr.
David Schmitz - Principal
Second Quarter
2011
Greetings from
Kickapoo! The holiday season is upon us and I hope you and
your family are able to find time to make special memories
together.
Our students have certainly made memories as they participate
in a variety of activities around Kickapoo. This fall, students
cheered Garrett Estebo on to his 4th place finish in state
swimming (100 backstroke), marveled at our Golden Girls for
winning 1st place in Hip Hop at a dance championship (UDA Regional
in Chicago), and indulged in a little theater as their peers
performed The Phantom of the Opera to FOUR consecutive sold
out crowds! The fall of 2011 has truly been filled with memories
for all!
The mission of Kickapoo High School is to facilitate a high
level of learning and performance to prepare all students for
their future in a global society. Our staff is working hard to
support your student's learning so they are truly ready for the
future. Do you believe your child is being challenged? With over
80% of our students heading to college after graduation, it is
imperative that they push themselves academically! We will begin
conversations in the next few months related to scheduling for
courses for next school year. Our counselors will be encouraging
students to enroll in courses that will best prepare them for
the rigors of college. Your partnership in this endeavor is greatly
appreciated!
There is a strong correlation
between good daily attendance at school and academic success.
Kickapoo's attendance rate has
been phenomenal this year with nearly 96% of our students present
each day! Thank you for your efforts in making attendance
a priority.
Please avoid scheduling appointments that might require an absence.
I also ask that you make every effort possible to schedule your
family vacations and/or trips on dates when school is not in
session. We hope to partner with you to emphasize the importance
of school attendance both in your home and in our community!
We hope to maintain clear and easy lines of communication with
you. Our website, parent email lists, and eSchool Plus home access
are great tools for this purpose. You are always welcome to call
or email any staff member working with your student. Please feel
free to contact me if I can assist you or your student in any
way.
Sincerely,
David Schmitz
Principal
