The A+ Program
was created by the Outstanding Schools Act of 1993 as an incentive
to improve Missouri high schools. More than 65,000 Missouri
students have qualified to receive the A+ financial incentive
since the program’s inception. For 2006-07, the General
Assembly appropriated $18.2 million to support the A+ Program.
Fall 2008, Kickapoo
High School will seek designation as an A+ school from the
Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education. As an A+ school, Kickapoo is required to provide all
students with a variety of opportunities that will prepare them
for the workplace, post-secondary vocational/technical training,
and/or college.
The education of all students is important, regardless of their
plans following high school. Some Kickapoo High School graduates
will choose to attend a four-year college or university; others
may go directly into the work force or military; and still others
may seek additional training at a post-secondary vocational school
or community college. The A+ Schools Program is designed to ensure
that no matter which option is chosen, all high school students
will be provided selections of courses, career counseling, technology
and/or workplace skill development opportunities which are appropriate
to their career goals.
The A+ Schools Program encourages all students to focus on a
career early and set a goal that includes training beyond their
four years of schooling at Kickapoo. The A+ Schools Program asks
all students to select a career path, plan course work for all
four years of high school, and progress toward a goal of additional
training at the post-secondary level or a high-wage job.
KHS students who graduate in May 2009, may qualify for a state-paid
financial scholarship to attend any public community college
or career/technical school in Missouri if the students meet the
following requirements:
» Enter into a written agreement with the high school prior
to graduation.
» Attend a designated school for three consecutive years immediately
prior to graduation.
» Graduate with an overall GPA of 2.5 points or higher on a
