Want to get your child reading?

Try one of these:

• Keep a small basket or bag filled with quick things to read in the car and in each bathroom. Try magazines, trivia books, joke books, and short stories.
• Read each night before bedtime. Fifteen to thirty minutes is relaxing and builds daily reading habits.
• Visit the library and book stores often. Libraries are free and there are many used book stores that will trade books for a small fee.
• Take a walk or visit a museum and ask questions. Then read to find the answers together.
• Listen to books on tape or CD while riding in the car. Listening to good readers helps develop fluency --- and it's fun.
