PTA Mission Statement

The mission of the National PTA is three-fold:
  • To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;
  • To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children;
  • To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

PTA Purpose

The Purposes of PTA:

  • To promote the welfare of the children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship
  • To raise the standards of home life
  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
  • To bring into close relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

Committee Descriptions

Description
Birthday Salute Pass out treats during lunch once a month to celebrate students' birthdays
Book Fair Annual event held November 17-21, 2008 during school hours and two evenings.
Business Partners Help coordinate collection and redemption of Box Tops, Campbell labels, Best Choice UPCs, Summer Fresh receipts etc.
Care Send cards and flowers to families in time of need; and staff in time of need and celebration.
Clothing Bank Work at the Springfield Council of PTAs clothing bank, which is only open on Wednesdays during school hours. Wanda Gray will be assigned three dates to provide volunteers to sort clothing: 10-8-08, 11-19-08, 04-08-09
Community Partnerships Help with Wanda Gray Night at McAlister’s and other community events, as needed.
Fall Festival Help with annual event held on Friday October 17, 2008 from 5:30-8:00.
Fall Festival Painted Pumpkin Penny Wars Help count change each morning October 13-17, 2008.
Fun Night Help with annual event held on Saturday May 2, 2009 from 5:00-8:00.
Planning will begin in January.
Fundraiser Help with annual fundraiser –September/October
Group Pictures Help during picture taking and sale of pictures to students.
Health Screening Help during Health Fair for grades K, 1, & 3 on Thursday October 4, 2007.
Membership Help with membership drive to get parents and students to join the PTA, collect dues, and distribute membership cards.
Public Relations Help collect information to produce the PTA newsletter and coordinate other public relations, as needed.
RAD (Reading & Dads) Help coordinate program to get adult males to read in their student's classroom.
RIF Help with book giveaways to students
Reflections Help promote and submit students' work for judging in annual PTA city-wide contest.
School Appreciation Help coordinate activities for staff and teachers on designated days.
Skate Night Help with quarterly skate parties at Skateland.
Spirit Wear Help with the sale and distribution of clothing bearing the school's logo in the fall.
Student Directory Help compile reference / address book of students; print and distribute.
Yearbook Help coordinate the sale and layout of the annual yearbook.
Miscellaneous Call upon to help, as needed.
