PTA Mission Statement

The mission of the National PTA is three-fold:

To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;
To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children;
To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

PTA Purpose

The Purposes of PTA:

To promote the welfare of the children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship
To raise the standards of home life
To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.
To bring into close relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

Committee Descriptions

Committee Position	Description
All-Pro Dads	One-hour monthly breakfast before school with fathers and students to meet with other dads and kids in the school cafeteria. During this time, they discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, create fun memories, and are equipped with resources to strengthen their relationship
Birthday Salute	Put treat bags together to celebrate students' birthdays
Book Fair	Annual event held in library in November during school hours and two evenings.
Box Tops	Coordinate collection and redemption of Box Tops.
Care	Send cards and flowers to families in time of need; and staff in time of need and celebration
Cents of Pride	Bobcat Corner is the Cent's of Pride store that Wanda Gray helps sponsor in Bissett Elementary. The students spend dollars that they have earned through good behavior.
Clothing Bank	Organize volunteers to work at the Springfield Council of PTAs clothing bank, on Wednesdays 9am-3pm. Wanda Gray will be assigned two-three dates to provide volunteers to sort clothing.
Community Partnerships	Gather and organize Wanda Gray Community Partnerships for fundraiser events.
Fall Fling	Annual dance event held in October for students.
Fun Night	Annual event held in Spring on a Saturday. Carnival like event with lots of activities.
Fun Run	Annual 5K run held in Spring.
Fundraiser	Annual fundraiser held in fall to raise money for all of the activities that PTA funds for Wanda Gray.
Gray T-Reader	Coordinate the parent leader for each class to collect monthly reading journals.
Health Screening	Coordinate volunteers for Health Fair for grades K, 1, & 3 in October.
Home-Room Parents	Coordinate all homeroom parents.
Me and My Gal	Organize annual event for students and their moms..
Me and My Guy	Organize annual event for students and their dads.
Membership	Coordinate membership drive to get parents and students to join the PTA, collect dues, and distribute membership cards.
Mums & Pumpkins	Organize annual selling of mums and pumpkins.
Newsletter	Help collect information to produce the PTA newsletter and coordinate other public relations, as needed.
Parent-Advisory Board	Represent Wanda Gray at a quarterly meeting with the superintendent.
Penny Wars	Coordinate decorated pumpkins in fall and count change each morning.
RAD (Reading & Dads)	Coordinate program to have dads to read in their students’ classroom.
RIF	Help with book giveaways to students.
Reflections	Help promote and submit students' work for judging in annual PTA citywide contest.
Skate Night	Organize quarterly skate parties at Skateland
Spirit Wear	Sale and distribution of clothing bearing the school's logo.
Student Directory	Compile reference / address book of students; print and distribute.
Teacher Appreciation	Organize and coordinate volunteers and activities for staff and teachers on designated days
Yearbook	Coordinate the sale and layout of the annual yearbook.
