Special Education

Syllabus

Departmental Goals: The Special Education Department at Glendale strives to promote student achievement and reduce the dropout rate by helping students through individualized and direct instruction.

Students are encouraged to reach individual goals and objectives in math, reading, writing, study skills and behaviors by receiving special education services.

Ms. Lindsey Hall is a Special Education teacher and in her third year at Glendale. She graduated Cum Laude from Missouri State University in May of 2008 with a B.S. in Special Education (Cross-Categorical K-12 certified). She is from Blue Springs, MO. She is the youngest of 4 girls, and she has a 13-year old nephew, a 3-year old niece, and a 1-year old nephew. She also has a Yorkshire terrier named Roxie, and 2 kittens, Zeus and Zoe.

Mr. Harris is new to Glendale this year and is currently teaching in his seventh year within the field of Special Education. He holds a Masters degree in Special Education from Missouri State University, and is currently completing his second Masters degree in Educational Administration from MSU. Mr. Harris is also a freshman football coach at Glendale. He hails from the Kansas City area and when not teaching, enjoys fishing, Kansas football and basketball, and spending time with his wife, Kim, and son, Preston.

Mrs. Sara Hester teaches in Special Education and is the Special Education Dept. Chairman at GHS. This is her 16th year at Glendale, and the 10th year teaching here. It is her 22st year with Springfield Public Schools. She has a B.S. Degree from SMU in Deaf Education and a Masters degree in Special Education from MSU. She has three daughters; Meredith, Lauren, and Maggie, who all attended Glendale and one darling graddaughter. Sara enjoys reading, cooking, and rubber stamping. Mrs. Aimee Norcross is in her 3rd year as a special education teacher here at Glendale. She grew up in Hot Springs, AR (the other side of the Ozark Mountains). While growing up, her grandparents lived in Springfield where she visited frequently so she has really been in the area for years. She has been married to a wonderful, supportive man, her husband, Tom, for the past 18 years. She has 2 adorable (especially in my eyes) children, a daughter Arianna who is 9 years old and a son, Teryn who is 7 years old. Teaching is a second career for her. She has spent the past 20 years as a professional ballroom dancer. Next to performing, her favorite thing to do is teaching. She has always been passionate about out teaching and is looking forward to continuing to applying those skills here at Glendale.

Ms. Dina Wilson is the new teacher of the Functional Life Skills program. She was a para at Central High School for 3 years. A graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, she is currently seeking her Master’s degree in Special Education at Drury.
