Dr.
Matt Pearce - Principal
Third
Quarter
2012
Welcome
to the beginning of the second semester for
the
2011-2012 school year. The
new semester brings new opportunities
and learning for students and staff at
Glendale High School. Continuous
improvement is a key component of
becoming a better student, teacher,
department, and school. Additionally,
continuous improvement will be an
important driver in all that we do this
semester and looking ahead into the
upcoming school years.
During
the next eight weeks, we will be scheduling for
the 2012-2013
school year. I would like to encourage
all students (and parents) to consider
their schedule carefully. A rigorous
course of study is very important for all
students at Glendale High School. It is
important for our students to get out of
their comfort zone and challenge themselves.
In order to be most prepared for
college and career readiness students at
Glendale should take four core classes
each year. We would also suggest that
each student consider taking five math
classes. According to our ACT test data,
students who took four or five math
courses while in high school had statistically
significant higher test scores, which
better prepared them for college and
career.
Finally,
during the scheduling process, we are asking
all of our students
to consider their six year Personal Plan
of Study (PPOS). This should be a
reflection upon the student’s part, but
also a conversation with a parent or
guardian. Possible topics to consider
during this discussion could be high
school classes, post secondary options,
ACT test, college, paying for college,
military interest, career, further career
training, etc… We hope that these discussions
can help lead to a positive
future for our students and allow them
to become a happy and productive
member of our society.
We
hope that you find this information helpful,
and as always, feel free to
email or give us a call if you have any
questions.
GO
FALCONS!!
