SPENCER HAIK spent his summer working in 100
degree heat, talking to friends, and training
for the USTFA 1500M. Every week involved sacrifice
and desire to achieve a goal. The result of his
2011 summer was that Spencer became the 2011
National Intermediate Champion for the 1500M
with an outstanding time of 4:05.72! CONGRATULATIONS
Spencer for all of your hard work and desire
to excel. Go Glendale!!
2010
XC Wrap-up
The
2010 season began with new transfer runners
at Glendale; old runners returning with strong
goals; and scheduled trips to some of the most
exciting cross country “carnivals” available.
Both
Boys’ and Girls’ teams scored
medals at all race levels at the Forest Park
Invitational and this continued on to a 4th place
Boy’s finish at the Nixa Invitational.
It was also here that Kaitlyn Cravens (Fr.) ran
her first varsity race and completed the course
in 5th place.
The
Oklahoma State Invitational was the next featured
race. This race had always been one
to attract schools from 5-6 different states.
The Boys were led by Jacob Young’s 20th
place, followed by Chris Mooneyham at 36th and
a team score good enough for 13th out of 24 teams.
The girls finished with Kaitlyn in the top 10
finishers, Ellyn Atkinson at 49th and a team
score of 17th out of 24 teams!
At
Conference the Boys finished 4th with Kaitlyn
finishing as 2nd team All Conference. At the
District meet both Boy’s and Girl’s
teams finished 8th but qualified Jacob Young,
Spencer Haik, Kaitlyn Cravens, and Ellyn Atkinson
on to the Sectional Championships. At Sectional
both Jacob Young and Kaitlyn Cravens qualified
for State.
Closing the year strongly, both Jacob Young
and Kaitlyn Cravens ran strong races with Jacob
finishing 80th and Kaitlyn 75th in the State!
This season long effort won Jacob Honorable Mention
for the SW Coaches Association runner of the
year. Kaitlyn received a 2nd team All SW Coaches
award for her 2010 season effort.

Meets to watch
Every meet in cross country has its own unique characteristics. Here are some special ones to watch:
SWCCA
Meet
SWCCA (Southwest Cross country Coaches Meet) @ Nixa, Mo.
This will be the first meet of the year and will go a long way in telling the
condition of our runners from over the summer. It is on a compact and flat course
for 5K. Freshman will run on the JV level as there is no separate freshman portion
for the meet. The JV distance is usually 2 miles.
Missouri
Southern Invitational @ Joplin, Mo .
This
is an exceptionally fast runner’s course with some of the best in both Missouri and Oklahoma. This is one of the largest races in the season and features many Ozark Conference schools as well as early season State ranked teams.
Cowboy
Invitational @ Stillwater, Ok
This features
both college and high school runners. This
is more like a running carnival as there
are teams from Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma,
Texas, and Arkansas. College teams included
many nationally ranked teams and individual
runners from a variety of states.
Ozark Conference @ Springfield, Mo .
This is run for bragging rights in the
conference.
District
Championships @ Nixa, Mo.
This meet is
a qualifier (top 4
teams and individual, non-team members in the top
30 finishers) for the Sectional meet. The meet
site often rotates between bidding schools. In
2010 this meet should be back in Springfield.
