From Miss Webb's Desk Hello Parents, Students, and Williams' friends:
August 2009 Dear Guests, Welcome to Ed V. Williams Elementary School's website! We're so glad you stopped by. It seems impossible that our summer is ending in just a few short weeks and soon our hallways will be filled with chatter, excitement, and students eager to learn. The Williams' staff has spent their summers traveling, moving, cleaning, and relaxing and now are planning their lessons, preparing their rooms, and writing students' names on all sorts of classroom items. I truly love the opening of school. We look forward each year to meeting new students, seeing old faces, and checking out how much our students have grown over the summertime. The first days of school are filled with an eagerness to learn, fresh haircuts, and new clothes as well as energized teachers, lots of learning and a shiny building. We hope your children are eager to return after a summer well played. This year we will be "stepping up our STYLE." In an effort to teach our STYLE to new students and keep it exciting for our returning students, we plan to kick off the year with fun assemblies, a focus on attendance, good behaviors, and tons of learning. Please help us to sustain our goals by helping to have your children at Williams every day, on time, prepared and ready to learn. Also, I'd like to challenge you to read with your children 20 minutes each night. Reading with your child is as easy as a quick picture walk through a book, reading an article in the news paper, turning on the closed captioning on your tv screen, or settling down at bedtime to share a fun or exciting story. If you should ever need help chosing books for your children to read at home, please stop by and see me; I'll head you in the right direction. I also want to personally invite our guests to play around on our site to check out the exciting things that we have going on at Williams. Our school is located in northwest Springfield, Missouri. We are surrounded by locally owned and operated businesses and are near I-44 interstate and our city's airport. We love Mustang country, which is our mascot, and we are proud to be a part of the Springfield Public School district R-12. Williams Elementary has a rich history and was named after a Springfield entrepreneur and successful businessman, Mr. Edward Valentine Williams. Mr. Williams owned a mercantile on Commercial Street which sold home goods, and would be considered some what of the olden days Wal-Mart! Before he passed, Mr. Williams spent time in the hallways of his namesake school treating the students to book shares, assemblies, and a treat of an orange and dime for each student on Christmas. Mr. Williams loved the children at Williams Elementary. Williams welcomes you to our new site. Please peruse our history to learn a little about us, and as we become more technologically astute we will add many more treasures to our webpage. Thanks for stopping by.
