The Springfield Public Schools Transportation Department is overseen by Norma Tatum, Operations Manager. The department includes one hundred twenty-three drivers, thirty-six bus attendants, five nurses, three lead trainers, one shop supervisor, five mechanics, four secretaries and two computer technicians.

The Transportation Center is located at 1600 East Chestnut Expressway. It includes the main offices, a six bay garage, employee parking, school bus parking and fuel storage, located on 10 acres. There is a Satellite Center located at Carver Middle School, 3325 West Battlefield. Twenty five buses are kept there in addition to a small office building and fuel storage.

During the 2004-2005 school year SPS buses logged 1,660,346 miles. 824,187 miles for regular education routes, 625,533 miles for special education and 170,082 miles for sports and activity trips. 40,544 miles were logged for miscellaneous miles (training, maintenance, and route evaluation). Buses travel 9,272 miles daily, transporting 6,131 students to thirty-five elementary schools, five high schools, three combined (K-8th grade) schools and six middle (6th-8th grade) schools.
