Creativity, Action, and Service
Creativity Action and Service (CAS) is one of the core components of the IB Diploma Program that is a requirement of all students seeking the IB Diploma CAS asks students to become engaged with their school, their community and other students to make meaningful changes in the world and in their own lives.
The goal is to produce students who not only have knowledge, but also the will to take action and fulfill the mission of becoming responsible world citizens. To read more about the CAS component, see the IBO web site CAS page and examine the official CAS guide on this page.
Juniors and seniors in the Diploma Program at Central High School work with Ms. Theresa Scholl, CAS coordinator, to set goals for their CAS program and to reflect on their completion of those goals.
The Three Elements of CAS
Creativity: Arts and other experiences that involve creative thinking.
Action: Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle, complementing
academic work elsewhere in the Diploma Program.
Service: Any unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the
student. The rights, dignity and autonomy of all those involved are respected.
Students are required to:
• Self-review at the beginning of their CAS experience and set
personal goals for what they hope to achieve through their CAS
program.
• Plan, do and reflect (plan activities, carry them out &
reflect on what they have learned).
• Undertake at least one interim review and a final review with
the CAS coordinator.
• Take part in a range of activities, including at least one
sustained project, some of which they have initiated themselves
• Keep records of their activities and achievements, including
a list of the principal activities undertaken and beginning and
ending dates.
• Show evidence of achievement of the eight CAS learning
outcomes.
