Peeking Indians

Box Tops are being collected throughout the school year to help raise money for the 8th Grade Class. Please check your grocery items, neatly cut, and turn in to your homeroom teacher by collection date:

Dear Parents,
We would like to invite your son to participate in the Kickapoo Basketball Academy held at Cherokee Middle School.

The Academy is designed to help future Kickapoo students develop their fundamentals in basketball. The Kickapoo Basketball Academy coaches are current Kickapoo, Cherokee and Carver basketball coaches, as well as some current and former Kickapoo players. The cost for the camp is $10 per session.

The camp is not just for the boys who were on the basketball team this season. We have a wide array of talent levels at the camp with one thing in common, all of the kids improve as they work In our fundamental stations.

Upcoming dates (All Sundays through the end of February):

February 12th,
February 19th,
February 26th

Grades 6-8 session from 1:00-2:15 at Cherokee Middle School

Grades 3-5 session from 2:15-3:30 at Cherokee Middle School

Grades K-2 session from 2:30-3:30 at Cherokee Middle School

The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools is currently taking nominations for the 2012 Turner Reading Awards which recognizes five outstanding reading teachers in Springfield Public Schools.

Nomination forms can be accessed at www.supportsps.org or here, and should be submitted to the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools. Nominations are accepted from anyone in the community, teachers, principals, students and parents. The nomination deadline is February 13, 2012.

The award includes a $2,000 cash prize for all five winners to be split between the teacher and his or her school’s reading program.

This will mark the 11th year for the Turner Reading Awards, established and supported by the Turner family of Springfield. Teachers are rewarded who show an excellence in teaching reading in the classroom and instill in students a love of learning to read. This award is managed and administered by the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools.
