Cougar The Mission of Carver Middle School is to create a learning environment that results in academic and social excellence.

Carver events and news

  • On Friday May 18 Carver Middle School eighth graders will be experiencing life during the 1860’s.  The social studies department in conjunction with the art club, the technology in living classes, the functional skills classes and student council have put together a multidisciplinary day based on the American Civil War. The day will begin with a dress rehearsal of the Battle of Pickett’s charge followed by students rotating with their regiment commanders to 10 different stations. 
    The stations include:
    • Civil War trunk from the Springfield History Museum
    • Civil War encampment, weapon demonstration and mess tent provided by Tim Ritter, Captain, 3rd Missouri Cavalry Regiment (Dismounted), CSA, Co. A, 1st Missouri Battalion, Trans-Mississippi Brigade
    • Authentic food
    • Games
    • Photo opportunity
    • Civil War musicians from the Hawthorne Duet<
    • Special Guest: Retired Navy Senior Chief Carl Dietrich, four time Purple Heart Recipient.
    The culminating activity will be a reenactment of Pickett’s Charge, the third day of the fighting at Gettysburg, which occurred on July 3rd 1863.
    Activities beginning at 1:15 p.m. include:
    • Union and confederate armies march into place along Cemetery and Seminary Ridge Battle – complete with battle sounds and dramatic acting
    • Confederacy retreats
    • Students pause and take a moment of silence in honor of all who have served
    • Star Spangled Banner played
    • Gettysburg Address given by 8th grader Chris King
    • Student celebration under the flag
    • Students return to classrooms for evaluations and reflection
  • 8th Grade Parents and Special Guests are invited to attend the 8th Grade Awards Ceremony Wednesday May 23rd at 8:30 am.
  • Last Day of School May 23rd at 12:45.
  • Summer School News: April 11 at 10:00 a.m. the on-line system will be open to register for classes.  Classes tend to fill up quickly especially for high school courses. On the Springfield Public Schools website you will be able to register.  To register you will need a student number.  If a student is not a Springfield Public Schools student, they will need to come to the Records Office at the Kraft Administrative Offices prior to April 11 to be given a temporary student number. 
  • PTSA is starting a campaign to participate in the Box Tops for Box Tops For Education Logoeducation program this year.  WeeBoxTops Website Badge, used to promote online shopping and earning eBoxTops for your school. would like to encourage everyone to collect and bring in Box Tops.  If every student and staff member in our school would give just 12Box Tops this year, PTSA would earn over $1000.00 to support efforts for Carver.

Last day of school to be May 23
Springfield Public Schools expects to end the 2011-2012 school year Wednesday, May 23. Students will be dismissed two hours early that day. Read more about end-of-school-year activities.

  • Athletic Passes are on sale in the Carver Office:
    Student Participation Ticket $50.00
    Adult Athletic Ticket $15.00
    Student Athletic Ticket $5.00
  • 2011-2012 Yearbooks will be on sale in the office until December 22nd between 7:30 and 3:30.  Students will have forms to bring home October 6th.    The cost is $17.
  • Please realize that no progress reports will be mailed.  Students are given the progress report or report card to carry home.  Also there is the Home Access Center web portal for parents/guardians that you can access at any time.  If you need a paper copy of a progress report or report card please call the office between 7:30-3:30.  As always 4th quarter report cards will be mailed home.  You can obtain access to the Home Access Center by bringing a picture id to the main office during office hours 7:30-3:30.  Please allow teachers adequate time to enter students' grades, assignments and long-term project information.  Home Access Center User Guide (PDF Link).
