Boyd Elementary welcomes volunteers to assist our students. In order to work with students each volunteer is required to complete a free background check and registration with the Springfield School District. The volunteer forms can be returned to any school in the district and take about a week to process. Volunteers will be notified by the school when their form is approved.
The volunteer registration form is found at this link. Policies and Responsibilities are found here.
1. Focus on the Positive - You can nominate students and staff for special recognition.
• On the back of each newsletter fill out the ‘Above & Beyond’ section and return
• Send in a note or an email about a good experience
• Call the school to leave a message of appreciation
2. Special Projects - Volunteers are a tremendous help at several of our annual special events: Field Trips, Holiday Parties, Pumpkin Carving, Midtown Schoolyard Garden work parties.
3. Attend Events - Each year there are several special events held at Boyd Elementary.
August - the Back to School Social
September–May - PTA Meetings
October - Open House
November/January - Parent-Teacher Conferences
November/April - Book Fairs
December/February - Holiday Parties
March – MAP Night/Testing
May - Lunchtime Talent Shows
May - Awards Assembly/Progression Ceremonies
May - Field Day
4. Be a Lunchbuddy - In this program a volunteer eats lunch with a student once a week for 30 minutes. They often finish early and are able to read books, study homework, play games, and enjoy recess time together. We allow mentors to take their students to the library to eat, which is already a big treat for the kids.
Thank you for helping our school community!
