Boyd Elementary has a primary service attendance area of about half a mile radius around the school. The boundaries of the attendance area are roughly Commercial Street on the north, National Avenue on the east, Chestnut Expressway on the south, and Boonville Avenue on the West. Many parents choose to take advantage of the open enrollment policy of the Springfield School district to transfer their student to Boyd Elementary. This is always permissible if space is available in the specific grade. Boyd Elementary accepts transfers on a first come first served basis. There is a standing waiting list maintained at the main office for transfer requests, but potential students will not be added to the list more than two years in advance of their desired year of enrollment.
Transportation for transfer students attending must be provided by the parents/guardians. Maintaining a transfer status requires acceptable behavior and attendance rates. Once granted, a transfer is continual until fifth grade as long as space remains available. Sutudents wishing to continue the IB educational track to Pipkin Middle School's MYP (Middle Years IB Program) need to re-apply during fifth grade for that transfer.
